X-Men '97's Forge is Native American? Yes!
X-Men '97's Forge is Native American? Yes! And he's voiced by Gil Birmingham!
As I was watching X-Men 97 episode number four, I thought to myself, the character Forge is Native American, and I hope Disney does this right.
Not only did Disney do it right, but as I watched for the voice credits, it turns out Forge is voiced by none other than Gil Birmingham, who hails from Comanche ancestry!

Accurate Native representation on SYFY TV? An interview with Trevor Carroll.
Просмотров 94Месяц назад
SYFY’s “Resident Alien,” a SYFY Network show that follows a crash-landed alien, is likely not the show where you would find accurate Native American portrayal, but the Syfy Network has done just that. In this video, I interview actor and director Trevor Carroll, who says he is thrilled to be working on a production with such actors as Sarah Podemski and Gary Farmer. Follow Vincent Schilling on ...

10 Native inventions that changed the world
Просмотров 379Месяц назад
In the 1500s, after the arrival of Columbus, stories about the innovations of Indigenous peoples began to make their way into Europe. Not wanting to believe that tribal communities could be inventive, they spread rumors that Native people in the Americas must simply be a lost colony or lost tribe from somewhere else. Really? Such rumors still exist today, and they are still being discussed by a...

EXCELLENT VIDEO!🤩
Thank you! 😀 I really appreciate it!
Great video - thank you!! I, too, am delighted to see Gil Birmingham voicing the character of Forge. Amazing actor & an intriguing character! Hope we see a lot more of them going forward!
This guy looks a lot like my dad.
Fantastic interview! 👏 I really appreciate the in-depth look at the authentic Native American portrayals featured in SYFY's Resident Alien. It's so refreshing to see Indigenous stories and actors being represented in mainstream media in a thoughtful, respectful way. The insights from Trevor Carroll, as well as the other cast members, were really enlightening. It's great to hear about their positive experiences working on a production that values accurate Native representation. 🙌
Thank you so much for your great and supportive comment! And thanks for watching!
Thank you so much for this insightful video on the representation of the Native American character Forge in X-Men '97! 🙌 The level of detail and analysis you've provided is truly impressive. I really appreciate you taking the time to break down how Forge's character is portrayed, from his Native American heritage being accurately depicted by the talented Gil Birmingham, to the important storylines and relationships the character has. It's so great to see Marvel making an effort to represent diversity in their characters. 🙏 This video deserves way more views! 📈 The quality of the information is top-notch, and I'm sure it would be of great interest to fellow X-Men fans. I'm definitely sharing this with my friends. Keep up the fantastic work - I can't wait to see what else you create for this channel! 💯 With a little more focus on production quality, I have no doubt your videos will start gaining the attention they deserve. Looking forward to more great content from you!
Lol the SCOTUS being all women and having the authority to bounce the POTUS would've been as much as useful for regular people in the US as what we have now, imo. It wouldn't have worked as a restraint on historical or even modern American culture, because there's no respect for women, their wisdom, vast life experiences, and even, still today sometimes, their education (just pretending they had access or ability for education) or their labor. Bet if only women were on SCOTUS rn, it'd be a barely above minimum wage job and their corruption would come a lot cheaper 😊.
Very glad you made this video about Forge Mr Schilling. I did read the very issue where he first appeared when it was published and being an avid reader of the X-men since my preteen years, I kept following this character. Later, I did so for a double reason, not only is he Amerindian (Native American), but it is clearly stated that is of the Northern Cheyenne Nation in a couple of issues. This is the Nation I lived with and I'm still in touch with, they reside in South East of Montana. Back to the first issue, I clearly remember even before reading the caption and speech balloon, that I thought: "oh, this guy looks Indian". And that's indeed a Hail to John Romita Jr the Artist and Chris Claremont the writer. Because he wasn't stereotyped at all on these very first pictures. Whether about his look, short hair, mustache, no "Indian trinket" worn, sportswear shorts and a T-shirt, the cybernetic right leg and the pose with the luxury walking cane, more of one kinda tycoon in a high tech luxury surrounding, in his High Tower of Texas. That was something unseen until then ! Then in the very next panel, his former mentor "Naze" showed up... The Amerindian Medicine Man... and here we had a stoking contrast !... all the tropes of the stereotyped "Indian" were back, "buckskin clothes, with the breech-cloth, headband and a feather to name a few... I thought:"Gee!" That was the downside, if an Amerindian was to be traditional, hence "conservative" and especially a Medicine Man, he had to be portrayed as the old Western movies like. However, Forge stood out and kept standing out throughout the years for the very reasons you mentioned. Both as a mutant with an unusual power and as an Amerindian person, a character like him hadn't been seen before in comic books. Of course, I kept being "a bit critical" or especially demanding about him as a character when referred to his Cheyenne background, for I would notice here and there details that were tropes again and inaccurate in terms of Northern Cheyenne representation, as to the pipe in the otherwise interesting story where he recalls his Vietnam Tour and the loss of his squad. Which, here after is a link about one of my closest and most influential friend from the Northern Cheyenne Nation, I met him in his early 40's, he's 76 now and, among other things, a Vietnam Veteran: ruclips.net/video/FX8aUp7_NVI/видео.html&ab_channel=BillingsGazette So, yes in X-Men'97, I have found his representation real good so far and it is cherry on the cake, yet not a futile one at all, that it is Mr Gil Birmingham who voices him. Once again, Thank you very much for the videos you make, the topics you address and the interviews you conduct, NICE FOR A CHANGE and Real Enjoyable Education !👍👍👍👍 Nya weh.
Why do people care who voices fictional characters? What if they are aliens? Who should vocie them then? Clearly not humans.
I don't know who may or may not like it, but hey, I think it's fun! But sure I'm sure some people aren't as excited as I might be but the cool thing is is that a Native American person is voicing a Native American character and as a Mohawk arts and entertainment journalist believe me this hasn't always been the case so for me and a lot of people in the Native community it's pretty exciting!
Or you can have Alan Tudyk voice the alien! 👽
An Indigenous superhero that doesn't die in the first 15 minutes???? (Sorry, Adam, but...)
Me searching for that Diana Ross video with Gil. 😂❤
Oh my gosh you're right I'll put the link!

Added that link!
I have yet to be able to sit down and watch any animated series. I think the animation just takes me out of the story. But if I get to looking into some I will definitely check out XM 97. Sounds like an interesting character! Peace!
I'll tell you my friend, it really does deliver. Admittedly at first, I felt the voices were a bit over dramatic, but then things seem to settle very nicely, I am seriously enjoying it now. And thanks so much for your continued support. I appreciate your great comments so much. Check out my review of the series on Native Viewpoint if you are interested. Have a great day!
@@VinceSchilling I'll definitely check out native viewpoint when I start the series. I find it helps to have a little guide along the way in most of the marvel stuff since I'm not very steeped in the history. Take care brother! Peace!
This movie is cool ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Much of the food cultivated in world today came from the horticultural practices from the ancient civilizations of the Americas.
Time indeed that not only Amerindian Actresses and Actors portray Amerindian characters but beyond "historical ones" stuck in the past, or stuck in one specific genre, whether drama or western, here it's Sci Fi and Comedy both, grounded indeed into reality, and it's for the best. These interviews you do are gem pieces to educate people. 👍👍👍👍
I am continuously so humbled honored and flattered by your kind words. Nia:wen (Thank you) so very much 😊
Once again a great interview ! I know this series and I was indeed fairly surprised to see people like Gary Farmer, Sarah Podemski, Sara Tomko not only playing in it but the characters they are portraying. Nice for a change, it expands what people, either audience or the casting directors, producers, directors and studios perceive as what Amerindian People, therefore Amerindian Artists can be, can do, can perform.👍👍👍👍
😃
I love the show! I picked up on it last year and was glad to see that it got renewed for another season. Hey y'all take care! Peace and love!
Thanks for watching !!
Natives know that white people are the real aliens, sent here to colonize the planet. Most Indigenous people look rather similar, but the white mutation only occurred about 6,000 years ago, but now they're everywhere. Like noxious weeds. Who woulda thought? WE THOUGHT! WE KNOW!
LOVE SARAH PODEMSKI!!!!!
She's absolutely right about roles. Dallas Goldtooth shows up in the new Fallout show and being Native has nothing to do with the character he portrays. Nia:wen and miigwetch for this interview, can't wait to see what you have for us next ✊️🤘
✊
Another excellent interview with a no less Excellent Actor, Performer who is a lasting positive print in the arduous track of telling, teaching, showing, expressing the reality with its beauty and its ugliness too of the existence of the Amerindian Nations today.
Thanks so much for your comment my friend I am so glad you watched... I'm appreciative for your support ☺️
@@VinceSchilling My very pleasure Sir.
👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
I watched this last night and just WOW - it is so beautiful and so moving and meaningful. I loved it and have already been telling people about it. This movie DESERVED an Oscar or Golden Globe !!! I have told all my friends with kids to watch it. Superb! Lo
It really is a wonderful film. Thank you for watching Lorraine ❤️
I don't at all identify as native American but my grandmother is from Mississippi and of Choctaw descent. All her family visibly native. I wish I new more about this.
I would start by asking family, Ernest. It's amazing to discover how much some of our family does know because it just simply went unasked. You can also go to the Choctaw Nation website and look under the tribal history page.
He was in one of my favorite guilty pleasures back in the 90s 'Forever Knight.' He played the chief of police in the first season of a vampire/police procedural that never took itself to serious, even when it was playing it over the top serious. You could tell he just did it for the paycheck, but it was still an amazing show. Also John Kapelos and Nigel Bennet. 'Nuff Said!!
Loved this dude ever since I first knew of him as Nobody. =) As a stupid fucking white man. That role hit me in the feels. (I spent the first seven years of my life with a schizophrenic mother couch surfing the reservations of Montana.........when she wasn't in a psyche ward)
I love Gary❤❤❤
A beautiful soul. How wonderful that native peoples are not just getting more roles but telling their stories.
An absolute treasure.
Gary is a great guy. No ego at all.
He hates me because someone LIED on me. And what is with Gary and aliens lately?
I enjoyed this Vincent and yesinvention 8 let's hear more!!
This may be my favorite comedy based tv series ever. Its so well done.
I am a scifi fan. I only give credit to the best and I think this was a true masterpiece. Crazy acting too
Totally agree Arin, Amber did a phenomenal job in this movie!
Absolutely. I would love to see her in another masterpiece. She has to be a bit picky tho. Epic scifi movies dont come often.
Men behaving like feral beasts when not held accountable but well funded and well armed? This is why men can not be trusted
Breathtaking ignorance and arrogance, by all those involved.
Gut wrenching. Still embarrassing . Thank you for your informing . 🪷

LOL - Nia:wen for watching!
It's so ridiculous many would believe it's aliens before indigenous people.
